Keep Walking!

Therefore the Lord longs to be gracious to you,

And therefore He waits on high to have compassion on you.

For the Lord is a God of justice;

How blessed are all those who long for Him.

– Isaiah 30:18 (NASB)

It is easy for me to focus on what is wrong in my walk with God. As my eyes stare down at the mistake, failure, or sin, I stop walking. My eyes are on the ground, the dirt, and I’m stuck.

But God wants me to keep walking.

God has given us a conscience to help us know when we are not right, but he has also given us himself to get right, to keep walking toward him. He is not waiting for failure on our journey, to pounce on us like a lion (though he is far more powerful than the mightiest of lions). He is waiting with grace and compassion, to walk with us and hold us when we stumble. He WANTS us to keep walking.

While the “justice” of this world is often corrupt, cruel, and breaks the legs of hope, God’s justice keeps us walking in his grace toward him. Keep walking.

Keep walking.

Keep walking toward Him because He loves you, and he is there, my friend.

As you walk forward in life, picture Jesus ahead of you, with arms open wide and a smile that is strong, holy, and full of pure love. A smile that melts all fears. A smile that rejects sin but never rejects you.

Now keep walking.

Questions for Thought and Action:

1. How do you react to your mistakes? Failures? Sins?

2. How do you think God reacts to your mistakes? Failures? Sins?

3. Personalize the verse above, Isaiah 30:18a: (where it says “you”, insert “me” or your name). Read it to yourself.

4. It is easy to become frustrated with ourselves when life seems to go wrong. We have all slipped, and it is tempting to stay down, to stop trying, to stop walking. When we sin, we need his forgiveness, which he promises to give. Read Isaiah 30:18a and personalize it again. Now read 1 John 1:9; then, personalize it: “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness” (NIV). How wonderful Jesus is!

5. Can you picture Jesus ahead of you on your journey of life, with his arms open toward you, smiling, caring, full of holiness, mercy, and love?

6. I encourage you to share any thoughts or comments you are comfortable sharing in the comment box.

May God bless you today and each day!

In Christ,
