Alive

Return unto thy rest, O my soul;

for the Lord hath dealt bountifully with thee.

For thou hast delivered my soul from death,

mine eyes from tears,

and my feet from falling.

– Psalm 116:7-8

I love Psalm 116. I personally identify with it; in fact, I believe all God’s people see their own faces as they read what God providentially moved His writers to record.

I see my own face as I read this. Indeed, he has delivered MY soul from eternal death without Him. He has delivered “MINE eyes from tears.” He indeed has delivered “my feet from falling.” When I stop to really consider all from which he has rescued me, I am filled with relief, gratitude, and joy.

While he never promised to save us from the suffering that comes from living in a fallen world, he has promised eternal life for those who call upon him to be saved from their sin (Romans 10:9-10, 13). I was dead in my sins (Ephesians 2:1-10), but God terminated that eternal termination; He literally ENDED my spiritual grave, and I am alive in Him forever, even after my body gives out! How good He is!

Recently, I wrote music for a song and the words flowed out to eventually form a worship song. I do not sing, so for now I played my guitar to write the melody line, hopefully to be replaced with an actual voice someday. Though there is no vocalist yet, I hope others may be blessed to read the lyrics while listening to the music.

Though none of us can truly capture the power in God’s Words with our own human words, I do hope these lyrics bless you and reflect the joy of Psalm 116:7-8.
